What was unique in NBA on May 15th?

16 May

In Game 1 of Eastern Conference Finals http://www.basketball-reference.com/boxscores/201105150CHI.html
Bulls attempted 19 more field goals, 13 more threes and 5 more free throws than Heat.
Proof on BRef’s Game Finder. It happened only TWO times during last 25 RS – Proof on BRef’s Game Finder.
Both of those games were also blowouts so no, it really isn’t a rocket science how much it helps to have a lot of extra possessions. What’s more, Bulls even had 7 less turnovers than Heat!

Joakim Noah had 8 offensive rebs, 2 steals, 2 blocks but only 1 turnover and 1 foul.
Proof on BRef’s Game Finder. It happened 9 times during last 25 RS – Proof on BRef’s Game Finder.
And six of them were performed by Ben Wallace. So is Noah next Big Ben? Or is he the next Camby?

Luol Deng had 4 threes, 4 steals, 7 rebs and 1 block with 0 turnovers and 2 fouls.

That combination hasn’t happend during last 25 RS! – Proof on BRef’s Game Finder.
Really impressive display of versatility… and he even successfully defended LeBron James!

C.J. Watson had very productive 10 minutes with 5 assists, 1 steal and 1 three made.

Brewer and Gibson also had productive performances in limited minutes so it really bothers me when anyone calls Bulls “Rose and nothing else”. It’s a very well rounded team.

BTW, I’ve just mentioned Bulls 4 times… how unique that game was? Unbelievably awesome!

Surprisingly Joel Anthony’s one-sided effort with 0 points and 6 rebounds, 1 steal and 3 blocks was not the one and only such performance in recent history: it happened two other times in the playoffs since 1991 – Proof on BRef’s Game Finder and many times during last 25 RS.

In other Sunday’s game http://www.basketball-reference.com/boxscores/201105150OKC.html
Kevin Durant had 39 pts, 4 threes, 3 blocks, 9 rebs and made all 9 of his free throws.
Proof on BRef’s Game Finder. It happened only 3 times during last 25 RS – Proof on BRef’s Game Finder. Another really impressive display of versatility… what a unique day ;-)

James Harden had 4 threes, 4 steals and 1 block and he played only 31 minutes.

Shouldn’t he start by now? Or is he the next super effective sixth man ala Manu Ginobili?

Surprisingly Russell Westbrook’s triple-double with 14 points, 14 assists and 10 rebounds was not the one and only such performance in recent history: it happened two other times in the playoffs since 1991
Proof on BRef’s Game Finder. Although it’s worth mentioning that Kidd and Jordan were both over 30 years old by then… and Russell could be a senior in college.

Well… Noah as next BigBen? Let’s say he’s closer to Camby… At least if we talk about health problems.
And no way Bulls are going to repeat something similar. No way!!

So it isn’t too early to label Noah injury-prone?

Probably true, but they won’t have many chances to do so ;-)

      Anyway, thanks for the comment!

Bulls do not need to repeat the type of game they had, as long as they do repeat the result ;-)
