What was unique in NBA on May 12th and 13th?

14 May

Since I started analysing box scores regularly for FB in 2004 I was surprised how often unique stat-lines occurred and it’s a series designed to celebrate that fact. The rules are simple: it has to be something that never happened in the last 20 playoffs [over 1500 games] and less than 25 times during last 25 regular season games [there were over 55000]. Incidentally it’s a tribute to Basketball-Reference.com for great tools.

In Thursday’s game http://www.basketball-reference.com/boxscores/201105120ATL.html
Zaza Pachulia had 13 rebounds and 1 assist in 23 minutes but scored only 1 point.
http://bkref.com/tiny/Br9PO. It happened only 6 times during last 25 RS – http://bkref.com/tiny/OS5sr.
It was a sample chapter from book “how can you spot energy guy from the bench?” ;-)

In Friday’s game http://www.basketball-reference.com/boxscores/201105130MEM.html
there was only one unique event: a win for 8th seeded Grizzlies.
It was special because they have won more games this postseason than any other No. 8 seed from the West!

Surprisingly Kevin Durant’s stinker with only 11 points on 14 FGA, 9 3PA and 5 fouls
happened one other time in the playoffs since 1991 [infamous dud by John Starks vs Rockets in 1994 finals]
http://bkref.com/tiny/BAt4t and 9 times during last 25 RS – http://bkref.com/tiny/23AIW.
Well, at least it wasn’t an elimination game so Kevin Durant can still redeem himself…
